PROGRAM OFFERS HOMEOWNERS RELIEF

The city of Henderson and the Nevada attorney general’s office are scheduled to host a Nevada homeowner relief program at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at City Hall, 240 S. Water St.

The free event highlights the no-cost housing resources that may assist Nevada families. Organizations will be available to take questions after the presentation.

Representatives will be on-site to schedule follow-up counseling sessions.

WOMEN’S EVENT SCHEDULED FEB. 7 and 8

Heart’s on Fire is scheduled Feb. 7 and 8 at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St.

The event, geared toward women, is planned to feature various speakers from the religious community.

The event is scheduled from 5 to 10 p.m. Feb. 7 and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 8.

Admission is $40, which covers lunch Feb. 8.

GROUPS TO DISCUSS PREPARING FOR TAX SEASON

Boomers Babes and Beyond is scheduled to meet 6 p.m. Feb. 4 at Black Mountain Grill, 11021 S. Eastern Ave.

Rebecca Warnick, a certified public accountant, is expected to speak about preparing for tax season.

The group meets to help women network and find opportunities for social enrichment.

TOMATOES TOPIC OF GARDEN MEETING

The Sunset Garden Club is scheduled to meet at noon Feb. 11 at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway.

The program “Tomatoes, The Passion Fruit,” is slated to be presented by Master Gardener Lori Evans.

REGISTRATION FOR SENIOR GAMES TO BEGIN IN FEBRUARY

Registration for the upcoming Henderson Senior Games is expected to open Feb. 3.

The event attracts people 50 or older to participate and compete in a variety of sports and games including table tennis, basketball, volleyball, bowling and track and field.

Games are scheduled from April 6-27.

NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Nevada Delegation of the National Silver Haired Congress, in partnership with the Aging Services Directors Organization, is requesting nominations for the Nevada Senior Citizen of the Year Award.

Nominees are considered based on their contributions at the local, state and national level and by excellence achieved through going above and beyond the call of duty, specifically in volunteer work in support of Nevada senior citizens.

Additionally, they are evaluated on the scope and impact of their achievements.

PROGRAM HELPS HOMEOWNERS BECOME MORE ENERGY-EFFICIENT

Henderson is offering a Weatherization Assistance Program to make homes more energy-efficient.

The program helps income-qualified Henderson residents make improvements to their homes at no cost.

Improvements can include installing, repairing or replacing a carbon monoxide detector, duct sealing and insulation, low-flow shower heads, water heater blankets and compact fluorescent light bulbs.

HENDERSON CHANGES BREWPUB LICENSE

CraftHaus Brewery, 7340 Eastgate Road, has worked with the city of Henderson to amend its brewpub licensing, which helps the business get one step closer to opening.

The amended license separates brewpubs into two subcategories: gaming and nongaming. Before, there was only one tavern license with a $60,000 initiation fee.

The non-gaming brewpub license is now $10,000.

CraftHaus is expected to open in 2014.
