The city of Henderson is planning the grand opening celebration for Cornerstone Park at 9 a.m. June 15 at 1600 Wigwam Parkway.
The event is expected to feature park tours, children’s activities and refreshments.

SEMINAR TO DISCUSS BARIATRIC
WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY

CITY COUNCILWOMAN TO HOST NEIGHBORHOOD CONNECTION MEETING
Henderson City Councilwoman Debra March is scheduled to speak at an upcoming Neighborhood Connection meeting at 6 p.m. June 12 at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway.
The gathering allows residents to ask questions and hear updates about the city.
Other city officials, including Mayor Andy Hafen, are expected to attend.

HENDERSON PLANS TO participate
IN LARGEST SWIMMING LESSON
The city of Henderson is planning to take part in the largest swim lesson at 8 a.m. June 18 at all city pools.
The event will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for largest swim lesson. The current record was set during the 2012 World’s Largest Swimming Lesson event with 24,873 participants representing 15 countries.
More than 25,000 children on five continents are expected to participate this year.

MASTER GARDENERS PLAN TOURS
OF DEMONSTRATION GARDENS
The Master Gardeners of Southern Nevada plan monthly tours of the Demonstration Gardens at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road. Tours are free and open to the public. Groups of five or more are requested to call program coordinator Ann Edmunds at 702-257-5587 at least two weeks in advance.
EVENT TO TEACH WATER SAFETY
The city of Henderson has scheduled its Rad Tad Water Safety Day at 1 p.m. June 15 at the Black Mountain Aquatic Complex, 599 Greenway Road.
The event is expected to include demonstrations on first aid and basic water rescue.
The event is also scheduled on June 29 at the Wells Outdoor Swimming Pool, 1650 Price St.; July 12 at the Whitney Ranch Activity Pool, 1575 Galleria Drive; and July 20 at the Henderson Multigenerational Activity Pool, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway.
AUTHOR TO SPEAK ABOUT HER LIFE IN IRAN
Moniru Ravanipur is expected to speak at 2:30 p.m. June 26 at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway, as part of the local authors series put on by Henderson Libraries.
Ravanipur is planning to discuss her role as one of the 17 activists who faced trial in Iran for participation in the 2000 Berlin Conference, in which people were accused of taking part in anti-Iran propaganda.
