EARLY VOTING TO BEGIN May 18
The race for Henderson Municipal Court Judge Department 1 between incumbent Judge Mark Stevens and Sandra Allred DiGiacomo is scheduled to go to general election June 4.
Early voting is scheduled to run May 18-31.
Residents can vote from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the City Clerk’s office at the city of Henderson, 240 S. Water St., or from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road.
The city has also set up voting centers opened from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following dates at locations throughout the city:

Henderson libraries foundation
RAISES FUNDS TO BENEFIT ITS COLLECTIONS
The Henderson Libraries Foundation raised $37,165 through Nevada’s Big Give campaign April 25.
The foundation ranked seventh in Nevada in the number of donors and 16th in the amount raised online.
Donations received are expected to go toward providing funding for library collections, outreach services, innovation technology and capital projects.

REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER CAMPS OPEN
The city of Henderson has opened registration for summer camps, which run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 10 through Aug. 23.
Summer Kids Zone offers drama, music, games, field trips, special events and arts and crafts for children 5 to 12. It costs $99 per week.
Teen Kamp, open to youths from 12 to 15, offers leadership opportunities and themed activities for $110 per week.
Five locations are expected to host the summer programs: the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road; the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway; Bob Miller Middle School, 2400 Cozy Hill Circle; the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway; and the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.

GOLF TOURNAMENT TO BENEFIT SENIORS
The Foundation Assisting Seniors is scheduled to host its 10th annual golf tournament at 7:30 a.m. May 27 at Revere Golf Club, 2600 Hampton Road.
Proceeds are planned to help the nonprofit, which is dedicated to improving the lives of seniors.

DANCECENTER TO HOST FUNDRAISER
The DanceCenter Las Vegas has scheduled a fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. May 25 at the DanceCenter Ballroom & Latin Dance Studio, 3686 E. Sunset Road.
The event is to feature a silent auction and is expected to raise money for Deaf Expression.
The studio also plans to celebrate its third anniversary.

GROUP TO HOST MONTHLY LUNCHEON
Desert Newcomers Club is scheduled to host its monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. May 15 at A Thyme For All Seasons, 310 E. Warm Springs Road.
The event is expected to include a fashion show with clothes modeled by members from The Dress Barn.

HENDERSON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL DONATES TO AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION
Henderson International School, 1165 Sandy Ridge Ave., donated $23,112 to the American Heart Association at a May 2 assembly. Students fundraised during March as part of the AMA’s Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart programs. Students got pledges from family and friends and jumped rope and shot basketballs during physical education classes. Students received one penny per jump or made basket.

SHORT STORY CONTEST OPEN
TO YOUNG AUTHORS
Aspiring authors ages 14 to 22 can apply for a chance to have their work published as part of a compilation book to be sold at amazon.com.
Applications for the Gateway Arts Foundation’s Helen Hearne Literary Scholarship are being accepted through Aug. 1. Applicants can submit a short story in fiction or nonfiction of 14,000 to 21,000 words. The story must have a theme or central focus of Nevada or any town in Nevada throughout the story. Three award classifications will be given based on age.

HENDERSON PLANS
TO SLIDE INTO SUMMER WITH EVENT
Henderson is scheduled to host its “Slide Into Summer” event from 5 to 7 p.m. June 7 at Anthem Hills Park, 2256 Reunion Drive.
The event is expected to include a giant slip and slide for all ages, a mini slip and slide for children, bounce houses, lawn games and sun safety tips.
Entry costs $5 per person.
