KB to hold open house
March 19, 2011 - 1:03 am
KB Home will hold an open house event at its Glengarry neighborhood at Anthem Highlands, a planned community in Henderson, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. today.
The event will include a complimentary lunch and refreshments. Guests can tour homes and learn about KB's Built to Order program, which lets homeowners select design options.
The two model homes at Glengarry are from the builder's new Home's Open Series collection.
The Open Series homes are designed to devote the most square footage to the areas of the home where people spend the majority of their time -- the kitchen, dining and living spaces, according to Rob McGibney, executive vice president of KB Home's Nevada division.
Home shoppers have their choice of three two-story floor plans that include as many as five bedrooms, three baths and two-car garages. One of the flexible designs includes a downstairs master bedroom with the option for dual master suites.
This community sits high atop a hill with city views, and is about one mile away from shopping and dining options.
New homes in the neighborhood start in the $160,000s.
The homes also are designed to help homeowners conserve natural resources and save money on their monthly utility bills, according to McGibney.
All KB homes in Las Vegas are built to Energy Plus standards in addition to being Energy Star qualified.
Features like programmable thermostats, radiant-barrier roof lining, low-e windows and efficient heating and cooling systems help keep household energy utility bills low, according to McGibney.
In fact, a new Energy Star-qualified KB home is up to 45 percent more efficient than a home built as recently as the 1990s, according to McGibney.
The builder has launched its Energy Performance Guide, or EPG, which is a numerical rating of a home's energy efficiency and an estimate of monthly electric and gas costs for a home, according to McGibney.
It provides an EPG rating on every new home it sells, including those at Glengarry at Anthem Highlands.
Company officials said the EPG allows buyers to better understand what their monthly expenses will be.
KB Home officials said the company is the first national builder in the industry to provide such a rating for all its homes.
Similar to the miles per gallon rating, or mpg, which reflects automobile fuel efficiency and is a standard disclosure with vehicle purchases, KB Home's EPG informs homeowners and prospective buyers about the relative energy efficiency of a home,
The system provides the homebuyer with an estimated dollar amount for monthly electric and gas energy costs for the home.
The KB Home EPG is posted in all of the model homes and presented to buyers when they purchase a home.
"For most people, buying a home is the largest and most important purchase they will ever make, and until now there has been no standard way to communicate a home's estimated monthly energy costs," McGibney said.
"We believe providing the estimated monthly energy costs will not only empower our homebuyers, but also change the way people shop for a home. Homebuyers can now better understand the estimated energy costs for the home and potential savings by living in an energy-efficient KB home at a community like Glengarry."
