KINGMAN, Ariz. — Lake Havasu City Republican Doug Schuster appears to be the new sheriff of Mohave County.
Schuster, who retired from the Sheriff’s Office a year ago, was leading current runner-up Chief Deputy Sheriff Rodney Head in the six-person race by more than 1,400 votes as of Tuesday morning with roughly 2,000 ballots left to be processed.
Voters in northwest Arizona made key decisions in that and other important races in Tuesday’s primary, though many contests won’t be determined until the November general election.
Final primary election results won’t be known until Friday at the earliest.
Each of the five Mohave County supervisors is on the verge of GOP primary wins. Hildy Angius was unopposed and fellow board members Steve Moss, Jean Bishop and Gary Watson have substantial leads while Buster Johnson is ahead of challenger Gary Kellogg by more than 600 votes.
Bullhead City officials said Mark Clark, Kathy Bruck, Sheila Shutts, Tami Ring and Annette Wegman each won City Council seats, without need of a runoff.
Travis Lingenfelter is an apparent outright winner of one of the three Kingman City Council seats that were up for grabs Tuesday.
