Las Vegan spending week with her Texas dad — at Democratic National Convention

PHILADELPHIA — A daughter-and-father duo are delegates at the Democratic National Convention. The daughter is from Nevada, while the father is from Texas.

Artie Blanco, a superdelegate from Las Vegas, grew up in Houston, where her father, Alfredo Blanco, lives.

Growing up, her interest in politics increased as she volunteered in local elections with her father’s encouragement.

“He’s just giddy,” the daughter said. “He’s always wanted to do this.”

Alfredo Blanco, a 65-year-old retired machinist, first entered the U.S. from Mexico in 1968 and became a U.S. citizen in 1987.

He said the nation allows all to get involved in the political process. He said the election is about the future of the country, not individual candidates or delegates.
