Live music, golf, chair-lift rides and more scheduled at ski resort
June 18, 2012 - 11:20 pm
Spare some elbow grease this weekend and reap the benefits of the hard work all summer long at Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort , 6725 Lee Canyon Road on Mount Charleston .
Volunteers are needed for an annual post-season litter pickup planned for 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday . The event is in preparation of a full roster of activities and events planned at the resort through September.
Among events planned are chair-lift rides above the trees, an 18-hole disc golf course and a summer music series.
"Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort will be very active this summer season," resort president and general manager Kevin Stickelman said. "We're excited to offer Las Vegas' residents and guests a year-round outdoor experience."
Some spring cleaning is needed before the activities can commence. The annual litter pickup addresses debris found after the thaw and light upkeep of the grounds .
The clean up is to include scenic chair-lift rides and a hunt for a 2012- 13 season pass. A complimentary barbecue lunch is set to be included.
Participants are advised to wear hiking attire and be prepared for a day outdoors by bringing sunscreen, a hat and proper eyewear and footwear . The resort will provide volunteers with trash bags, gloves and water.
No RSVP is required.
Starting June 29, the resort is to host disc golf and scenic chair-lift rides for a fee, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Sept. 9, operations manager John Morelli said.
Demand led to resort officials reinstating summer activities, he said. On a particular Tuesday last summer, 156 people visited the resort and were turned away, he said.
The resort now invites people to enjoy lush green grass, fresh air and temperatures about 30 degrees cooler than the Valley, Morelli said.
"We're not just winter sports," he said. "Some of the stuff we do this summer will increase our abilities for next year."
The events, alongside some planned private events such as a wedding and charity races, are positioning the resort to be "another attraction for Las Vegas," Morelli added.
Disc golf is set from noon to 5 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays for $10 per session or a $50 season pass . Participants are to receive a chair-lift ride to the course start.
Chair-lift rides are available from noon to 5 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m . Saturdays and Sundays at a cost of $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 and free for those younger than 5. A season pass is $50 .
Groups interested in hosting special events at the resort can contact Morelli at jmorelli@lvssr.com .
The hills are to liven up with a summer music series with styles such as blues, bluegrass, classic rock, country, folk, jazz, reggae and rock 'n' roll starting June 30 .
Music Americana Volume 1, an all-ages event, is to kick off festivities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 30 . The lineup is to include Rick Estrin & The Nightcats , John Earl's Boogieman Band , Moaning Black Snakes and Las Vegas' Tommy Rocker .
Tickets are $15 for adults or $5 for children younger than 12 and can be purchased the day of the event at the resort.
A discounted package rate of $50 for all four concerts is to be available for purchase online.
Gates are set to open at 10:30 a.m., and guests can bring chairs, blankets and umbrellas for the festival-style seating. Free parking is available, and guests can ride the complimentary shuttle from the parking lot. A limited food and beverage menu is to be available .
Pets, coolers and outside food or beverages are not permitted.
Upcoming dates for the series are set for July 28, Aug. 18 and Sept. 8 .
