GARY, INDIANA — A man has been charged with fatally shooting his 13-year-old neighbor nine times after the teen laughed at him following a burglary.
Khanji Fairley, 30, suspected teen Kobe Jones of breaking into his home. When the boy reportedly laughed at the man’s anger, Fairley became aggressive.
“Fairley told a neighbor he would offer a reward for information on the suspect,” the Post-Tribune reports. But according to a probable cause affidavit, Fairley “would, ultimately, not need to pay this reward.”
Before the shooting, witnesses say they saw Fairley’s car drive behind Jones’ home, a hooded figure emerged and Jones was shot dead.
Jones’ mother reportedly spoke to Fairley on Friday afternoon, just hours before the boy was killed.
“I don’t care about kids … I will spray the whole block up,” the affidavit states.
The man had just been released from jail before discovering the break-in.
