Man kidnapped Utah woman, assaulted her for 20 hours

Police have a man in custody they say forced a woman into her Layton, Utah apartment and then assaulted her with various objects for the next 20 hours while she was in and out of consciousness.

Officers said 21-year-old Benjamin Luke Burnside kidnapped a woman he knew Aug. 4 and then assaulted her from 11 p.m. through 7 p.m. the next day.

According to official documents, Burnside strangled the woman until she was unconscious several times.

Documents state he beat her with a golf club, a piece of metal from the refrigerator and taped her mouth shut.
