Motorcyclist nails pedestrian during unflinching reporter’s live shot — VIDEO
Even in this digital age, there’s still an extremely compelling reason to watch live TV news — the unpredictable.
No matter how prepared or how careful a reporter and her photographer are, they’re still surrounded by an air of the unknown.
Such was the case for British reporter Ria Chatterjee on Sunday, who was standing outside London’s St. Pancras Station when an unsuspecting pedestrian was taken out by a passing motorcyclist. Like a true professional, Chatterjee continued with her report (about which we have no idea because we were so engrossed in the chaos behind her, but was apparently about “the Eurostar and Eurotunnel chaos”).
But again like a true professional, she didn’t leave her audience hanging. Minutes after her report, Chatterjee tweeted, “The pedestrian and motorcyclist who collided during my live broadcast at St Pancras Stn are both fine.”
Chatterjee told ITV News she “heard a loud bang” and a few people inquired why she didn’t turn around when hearing the crash behind her, to which she replied, “It’s difficult to offer an accurate account of something that’s only just happened and, of course, something you didn’t actually see.”
Touché.
Chatterjee said by the time she did turn around the pedestrian was walking away and the motorcyclist was picking up his scooter.
An obvious case of no harm, no foul.
