National Night Out Block Party to be held in Providence park Tuesday
The free National Night Out Block Party will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in Providence's Knickerbocker Park. The new park is at 10695 Dorrell Lane.
The event will feature exhibits, information and demonstrations from area first responders and a display of vehicles and a helicopter.
Festivities will include video games through Game Truck of Las Vegas, a DJ, volleyball, soccer and an appearance by P.D. the Providence dog mascot.
Farmers Insurance will provide free Kid ID Kits, and Planet Interactive will operate a fire truck slide and Sticky Drag Race where participants race in shoes fastened to a special race track.
During the event, the new PART Campaign, Prevent Any Road Tragedy, will be introduced. It is a local traffic safety campaign aimed at reducing the number of fatalities and injuries on community roadways and thoroughfares. Mobilization efforts will run Aug. 7-21.
Event attendees also are encouraged to bring new and gently used books for Spread the Word Nevada. The nonprofit organization promotes literacy in Nevada.
