Outdoor lovers find lots of space to love
Like so many Las Vegans, Chris and Candace Rodgers started out in California but were lured to Southern Nevada where taxes are lower and temperatures are only a little higher. Self-described outdoor lovers, they said they found plenty of space inside and out at Pardee Homes’ Durango Ranch.
The Rodgers were recently featured on CNBC’s national report of “What’s Fueling the Housing Boom in Vegas?” that also appeared on PBS’ Nightly Business Report. After looking at existing and bank-owned homes, they decided the best deal for them was a new home.
“We had 10 things on our list of what we wanted in a new home and we found all 10, plus six more at Durango Ranch,” said Chris Rodgers, a finance, accounting and economics teacher at Keller Graduate School of Management. Candace Rodgers, operations manager in the residential mortgage division of a local bank, said they were surprised to find a single-story home with more than 3,000 square feet of living space.
Their homesite is large enough for a casita, swimming pool, recreational vehicle parking and a nature area with trail, according to Chris Rodgers.
With two sons and five grandchildren in nearby California, the Rodgers now have more than enough room for frequent guests to enjoy the great outdoors as well as the great indoors.
“We are less than 30 minutes from wherever we want to go,” Candace Rodgers said. “This is a nice jumping-off point.”
Near the southeast corner of Durango Drive and Pebble Road in the southwest valley, Durango Ranch features single-story plans that range from 2,972 to 3,849 square feet on one-third-acre homesites.
While their new home is twice the size of their previous golf course residence not far from Durango Ranch, the Rodgerses report their utility bills are about the same.
“Our new home is very energy efficient and very well constructed,” said Chris Rogers.
Durango Ranch is part of Pardee Homes’ LivingSmart program that includes standard and optional measures that boost energy efficiency, save water, improve indoor air quality and encourage material conservation and the use of recycled or sustainable resources in new homes, according to company officials.
The homes can be built with as many as five bedrooms, optional detached casitas, three-car garages, Nevada Rooms (optional enclosed rooms instead of a covered patio), large kitchens, great rooms and optional RV parking pads. Prices currently start from $411,990.
Durango Ranch Plan One offers three bedrooms, three baths, office or optional fourth bedroom, great room, dining room and three-car garage in 2,972 square feet. Plan Two measures 3,420 square feet with three bedrooms, office or optional fourth bedroom, three baths, game, great and dining rooms, covered patio or optional Nevada Room and three-car garage.
Plan Three at Durango Ranch measures 3,849 square feet with four bedrooms and den and options for a fifth bedroom or office, 3½ baths, dining, game and great rooms, optional Nevada Room at the covered patio and three-car garage.
The homes include standard features such as 42-inch birch kitchen cabinets, stainless steel appliances, slab-granite kitchen countertops in a choice of four colors and two-tone interior paint.
