Park to hold free event on May 11

Country music performers are the stars of the free Country in the Park event, but it is the Exploration Park at the Mountain’s Edge master-planned community that creates the stage. The concert will be held in the southwestern valley community’s amphitheater.

Country music favorite Chris Cagle, rising star Chris Janson and the local Tony Marques Band will entertain at the 80-acre park between 2 and 8 p.m. May 11.

Mountain’s Edge and KWNR-FM (95.5) are sponsoring the event.

Exploration Park is at 9275 S. Buffalo Drive, just south of Blue Diamond Road and the community’s entrance.

“I am very excited for another Country in the Park this year,” KWNR program director JoJo Turnbeaugh said. “I love that this is a great, free event for families in a beautiful location like Mountain’s Edge, while everyone can enjoy listening to some of KWNR’s hottest artists.”

Cagle has been a regular on KWNR with numerous hit songs, including “Got My Country On” and “Dance, Baby, Dance” from his current album, “Back In The Saddle.” Janson’s recently released single, “Better I Don’t,” is airing on the station and garnering nationwide buzz. His songwriting efforts also have found airwave success, including co-writing Tim McGraw’s fastest rising single, “Truck Yeah.”

Having played at six previous Country in the Park concerts, Marques will be joined by new musicians this year. The Tony Marques Band opens the show from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by Janson from 5 to 5:45 p.m., and culminating with Cagle from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The event also features a beer garden, booths and exhibits, and food options, including Smokin’ Sam’s, Papa John’s, Firehouse Subs, Chilled Out Shaved Ice and Funnel Cake Café.

“We invite the community to join us for this annual country celebration, bring picnic baskets, blankets and chairs, and sit back and enjoy the entire day at Exploration Park,” said Jason Thompson, community development manager for Focus Property Group, developer of Mountain’s Edge.

The park features an Old West village with play structures, a replica of an archeological dig area, splash pad, picnic areas and the 2,846-foot-tall Exploration Peak with hiking and cycling trails and panoramic views.
