Photo: historians discuss Southern Nevada civil rights issues

Historians Claytee White and Michael Green discussed civil rights issues in Southern Nevada on Jan 18 at Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway.

the presentation, titled “From BMI to Busing — Building a Black Community” is part of the library’s series Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle.

White and Green talked about how segregated communities formed in Las Vegas and Henderson and the fight for integration in casinos and schools.

Over the next few weeks, the Green Valley Library plans to continue the series with films: “Freedom Riders” at 10 a.m. Jan. 25, “Slavery by Another Name” at 10 a.m. Feb. 1 and “The Abolitionists” at 10 a.m. Feb. 8.
