Pregnant woman charged with murder of 5-month-old fetus

ATLANTA — A Georgia woman was charged with murder in the death of her 5-1/2-month-old fetus delivered in a car after she took an abortion-inducing pill, officials said on Tuesday.

Kenlissa Jones, 23, of Albany, Georgia, was being held on charges of murder and possession of a dangerous drug, according to jail records.

Georgia state law prohibits abortions after the first trimester unless performed by a doctor.

Local media reports said Jones did not tell anyone she was pregnant. She ordered the drug Cytotec on the Internet from Canada to induce an abortion.

She took the drug and delivered her fetus on Saturday night while in a neighbor’s car on her way to a hospital in Albany, in south Georgia near the Florida border, according to the news reports.
