Roommate set on fire after throwing out spaghetti

A Florida man is in critical condition after police say he was set on fire following an argument with his roommate over spaghetti and meatballs.

Police told Bay News 9 that 33-year-old Melissa Dawn Sellers got into an argument with 42-year-old Carlos Ortiz Jr. recently, accusing Ortiz of throwing out her spaghetti. The two had been drinking, and Sellers dumped nail polish remover on Ortiz before setting him on fire, police said.

A friend who witnessed the argument said she threw water on Ortiz to try to put the fire out. He was taken to the hospital with severe burns on his face, chest and shoulders.

Sellers was arrested at her stepfather’s house and charged with aggravated battery.
