Laraine Kaiser's recent oil on canvas is scheduled to be in the Spring Valley Library's art gallery, 4280 S. Jones Blvd., starting today .
The work ranges from classical reproductions to abstract originals and surreal styles and will be on display through early November. Kaiser is also a musician for the Las Vegas Philharmonic orchestra.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
TRAVEL CLUB TO MEET AT TAP HOUSE
The Las Vegas Single Social and Travel Club for Mature Adults invites prospective members to its meetings, which are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Tap House, 5589 W. Charleston Blvd.
The meet-and-greet portion is set to start at 6 p.m. Meeting discussions focus on day trips, local events, in-state and out-of-state traveling, cruises and international traveling. A guest speaker frequently is featured. The meeting closes at about 7:30 p.m., and appetizers are served as the group mingles.

Team United set to hold
Bunco tournament
Team United has scheduled its third annual Bunco Tournament at 5 p.m. Friday at UnitedHealthCare, 2716 N. Tenaya Way, to benefit the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program. Tickets are $15 for Bunco only and $25 for Bunco and dinner. The evening includes dinner (optional), entertainment and prizes. Advance registration is required, and participation is limited. Sponsorships and prize donations are being accepted.

youth theater opens auditions
The Rainbow Company Youth Theatre is set to hold an audition for the upcoming show "Charlotte's Web."
Participants receive training in performance art and technical theater. Tuesday night meetings and classes are mandatory, and students are required to work on all four of the company's productions.
Auditions for roles in "Charlotte's Web," start at 1 p.m. Saturday . The show will be performed Oct. 7-16 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.

bingo room opens on the strip
A bingo room is now open on the Strip, at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, 2901 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
It is the only bingo room on the Strip. Bobby Taylor, who has more than 28 years of experience, will provide state-of-the-art bingo to players in the 6,000-square-foot room.
Sessions are held daily at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Red rock calendars for sale
The 2012 Visions of Red Rock calendar is available for purchase for $15.
The 16-month calendar features views of wildlife, as well as landscapes and vistas within the canyon. Photographs were selected from the 2011 photo contest entries.

Las Vegas little theatre
opens new show
"No Sex Please, We're British" is scheduled to open on the main stage of the Las Vegas Little Theatre, 3920 Schiff Drive, on Sept. 9.
The show centers around a young wife's attempt to make some extra money by selling Scandinavian g lasswear. Her efforts go awry when a box of pornographic postcards shows up instead. The hilarious door-slamming British farce played for years in London's West End.
The show is scheduled to run Thursdays through Sundays until Sept. 25. Showtime is at 8 p.m., except Sundays, when it starts at 2 p.m.

Nutcracker auditions start

Pooches head to the pool for dog daze
Clark County Parks and Recreation is scheduled to hold the Seventh Annual Dog Daze of Summer event at 9 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Desert Breeze Water Park, 8275 W. Spring Mountain Road.
Dog owners will watch as their canine companions take a relaxing dip in the pool during two sessions: 9 to 10:15 a.m. for dogs 50 pounds or lighter and 10:45 a.m. to noon for dogs heavier than 50 pounds.
Humans are not allowed in the water with their animals.
Prizes will be given for the shortest and tallest dogs and for funny pet tricks.
Owners must have their dog's current rabies tag or other proof of updated vaccinations before they are allowed in the pool. The pool will be power washed with a Southern Nevada Health District-approved solution immediately following the event.
Donations will be accepted for new or gently used clean dog items for local shelters. Admission is $5 per dog. Humans are free.

CandlElighters 5K and one-mile runs
at mountain's edge to raise money
Children and families with childhood cancer will benefit from the upcoming 21st annual Candlelighters 5K and One Mile "Race for our Kids."
The fundraising event is scheduled for Sept. 17 at Mountain's Edge, 9275 S. Buffalo Drive.
The event is organized by and for the nonprofit Candlelighters Childhood Foundation of Nevada.
The race will begin and end at the Exploration Park, just south of the Mountain's Edge entrance.
Check-in is at 6:30 a.m., opening ceremonies start at 7:30 a.m., the 5K run starts at 8 a.m., the 5K walk starts at
8:15 a.m. and the one-mile stroll starts at 8:30 a.m. Food and refreshments, silent auction, bone marrow drive and other activities are set to start after.
To participate, costs are: $20 for teams (at least 10 members), $25 individual adults, $20 seniors, $15 children (ages 2 to 12), free for childhood cancer survivors. Registration on the day of the event is $40, and an additional $5 for timed runners.

Southern terrace hosts second annual garage sale
The more than 900 residences of Southern Terrace are scheduled to host a community garage sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 17.

Camping near Red Rock Canyon
closed for summer
The campground at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is closed until Sept. 1 due to summer's low usage.
It is approximately two miles east of the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center on state Route 159 (West Charleston Boulevard) and is the only developed campground within the conservation area.
Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of other camping opportunities in the area, including backcountry camping at Red Rock Canyon with permit, 515-5050; Valley of Fire State Park, 397-2088; Lake Mead National Recreation Area, 293-8990 or 293-8906; Death Valley National Park, 760-786-3200; Mojave National Preserve, 760-252-6100; USDA Forest Service Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest, 515-5400; Spencer W.
