Sue Lowden’s shocking admission: Hutchison was right about me!

When responding to a political attack, it’s sometimes helpful not to look directly into the camera, repeat the offending line in question, and then admit to the charge.

It’s the kind of thing that your opponents’ campaign might, say, clip and use it yet another attack ad, to reinforce the original attack!

But here’s hotelier Sue Lowden, starring in what appears to be a hostage video, confessing to having donated money to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid 25 years ago, when Reid wasn’t such a rampaging liberal bent on destroying America, or words to that effect.

Lowden was targeted by her rival in the Republican primary for the lieutenant governor’s race, Mark Hutchison, for her Reid donations, since Reid has achieved national status as Republican boogeyman. And the simple and most obvious explanation — Reid’s a powerful figure and a good friend to Nevada’s No. 1 industry, in which Lowden works — probably won’t satisfy the rubes in the base who believe every Internet rumor they hear about Reid.

“My opponent wants to make a campaign issue out of the fact that I donated money to Harry Reid’s campaign 25 years ago,” an indignant Lowden says. “He’s right, I did.”

And there we have Hutchison’s next campaign ad!

Lowden goes on to plaster Hutchison with her standard attacks: He voted for taxes and to implement the Affordable Care Act in Nevada. But no matter what she says after the the first eight seconds or so doesn’t matter as much as those first few moments. But Lowden apparently believes in letting no attack go unanswered, even if the answer is, “he’s right.”
