TPC LAS VEGAS TO HOST JUNIOR GOLF CLINIC JULY 12

TPC Las Vegas, 9851 Canyon Run Drive, plans to host a junior golf clinic from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 12.

Besides golf instruction, trick artist Dennis Walters will give a one-hour clinic, A Combination of Golf Mastery and Human Inspiration.

TOYS4SMILES CONTEST SEEKS TOY DESIGNS

Toys4Smiles is running a contest to come up with new designs for its toys. The nonprofit makes simple wood toy vehicles for children in need. It is approaching its 200,000th toy and is looking for five new car, truck or van designs.

Anyone can submit an idea. Designs should follow the clean, simple shapes such as its first generation of cars used. Winners are to be chosen and contacted Aug. 1.

SOCCER TEAM RAISING FUNDS FOR TRIP TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Las Vegas Sports Academy 97 Red, a local soccer team, won regional matchups to become Nevada’s first US Youth Soccer U17 Boys Far West Regional champions.

They now prepare for the National Championships, scheduled for July 20-27 in Germantown, Md. The Las Vegas team is raising money to cover trip expenses, including airfare, hotel rooms, car rental and gas and meals for 18 players and their families.

FIREWORKS SALE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CANDLELIGHTERS

Team Kenzie plans to host a fireworks booth in the parking lot of the Albertsons, 10140 W. Flamingo Road at Hualapai Way, to benefit the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada in honor of MaKenzie Lynn Hanover, who died from brain cancer in 2011. The booth will be open through July 4, with presales available at teamkenzie.com.

WESTSIDE CHICAGO CLUB PLANS JULY 6 GATHERING AT SAHARA WEST LIBRARY

The Westside Chicago Club plans to meet at 2 p.m. July 6 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

The group meets the first Sunday of each month and consists mostly of people who have retired to Las Vegas. Monthly meetings start with a short business meeting, followed by a program. The group is open to all.

JEWISH GENEALOGY SOCIETY TO GATHER JULY 20 AT SAHARA WEST LIBRARY

The Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada plans to meet at 1 p.m. July 20 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

The final session of a four-part Beginning Genealogy Methods Workshop is planned on the topic of online records available to the researcher. The emphasis will be on European records that can be researched from home.

CARDBOARD BOAT REGATTA SET FOR JULY 25 AT DESERT BREEZE POOL

The annual Cardboard Boat Regatta is slated for 5 to 8 p.m. July 25 at the Desert Breeze Aquatic Facility, 8275 Spring Mountain Road, near Durango Drive.

Participants can build a boat using cardboard and duct tape. All boats must be preregistered by July 23.

Night swimming and boat registration is set to begin at 5 p.m., with races starting at 7 p.m.

Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children 3 to 17 and $1 for seniors 55 or older. Children 2 or younger will be admitted free.

If families choose not to race, they can swim from 5 to 7 p.m. and enjoy water games and music. Families are welcome to bring a picnic dinner and snacks, although alcohol and glass bottles are not permitted. Prizes will be awarded for the Most Creative, The Bismarck and Fastest Ship.

GOLF FANS INVITED TO PURCHASE RAFFLE TICKETS TO PLAY WITH PROS

The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is allowing golf fans to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to play alongside the top 36 PGA Tour professionals in the field in the Championship Pro Am Oct. 15.

For every ticket purchased, supporters will earn one entry in the raffle to win a spot in the event and two Hill tickets good for any one day. One winner, selected at random in September, will receive a one-night hotel accommodation, a Pro Am contestant badge, an invitation for two to the Pro Am Pairings Party Oct. 14, four weeklong Hill badges to the tournament and a gift package valued at $1,000 in addition to the playing spot in the event.
