TRAVEL CLUB TO MEET AT THE TAP HOUSE

The Las Vegas Single Social Travel Club invites prospective members to its meetings, which are scheduled the fourth Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is set for today at The Tap House, 5589 W. Charleston Blvd. The meet-and-greet portion is set to start at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room, and the formal meeting is set for 7 p.m.

Discussions focus on traveling from day trips, local events, in-state and out-of-state traveling, cruises and international traveling. A guest speaker frequently is featured. The meeting closes about 8 p.m. when appetizers are served and the group mingles. For more information, call 888-324-2028.

NIGHT HIKE TO EXPLORE WORLD OF BATS AT RED ROCK CANYON

A night hike is planned for Wednesday at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. A ranger will lead a hike and discussion on the night world of bats. The easy hike is about a half-mile long and includes sitting on the ground for observation and moving up and down the trail.

BEST OF SUMMERLIN VOTING BEGINS

Voting for the 2012 Best of Summerlin campaign is under way at facebook.com/summerlinlv. Valley residents can participate in this interactive campaign designed to recognize some of Summerlin's most popular amenities and places through Friday.

The campaign has 15 different categories, including best meal for less than $10; best place to take a date; best happy hour; best trail; best place to people watch; and best architecture.

Anyone is eligible to vote, and Summerlin residency is not required. Participants are limited to one vote per person. To vote, log onto facebook.com/summerlinlv and click on the Best of Summerlin tab. Winners will be announced on Summerlin's Facebook page and in a subsequent article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal in early September.

CONSTRUCTION TO START SOON ON NEW HOSPICE FACILITY

Solari Hospice Care plans to build a new 12-bed, 13,000-square-foot Inpatient Hospice Center on a 2.09-acre parcel of land at the southwest corner of West Craig Road and Conough Lane.

Las Vegas-based JMA Architects has been hired for the project.

Solari Hospice Care, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in Las Vegas this year, currently operates a 12-bed Inpatient Hospice Center at 5530 S. Jones Blvd. and hospice services for residents throughout Clark County.

Plans are to break ground on its new Inpatient Hospice Center in approximately 120 days, with a goal to complete construction and open its doors in late 2013.

The Westside Newcomers Club plans to host a coffee event for prospective members at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 5 at Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church, 2004 Spring Gate Lane. The coffee events are planned for the first Wednesday of each month.

WNC is a social club for women who have lived in the area for 10 years or less or who have life-changing events such as retirement. It offers a wide variety of activities. A luncheon with a program is planned for the second Wednesday of each month.

The Las Vegas Brandeis National Committee plans its annual showcase luncheon for 11:30 a.m. Sept. 12 at Bear's Best Gold Club, 11111 W. Flamingo Road.

It will kick off the organization's 18th year. At the showcase, attendees will learn about the various study groups that Brandeis is planning this year. THIRD ANNUAL ROCKIN' WALK PLANNED FOR SEPT. 30 TO BENEFIT GOODIE TWO SHOES

The third annual Rockin' Walk to benefit the nonprofit Goodie Two Shoes Foundation is slated for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 30 as part of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle.

The outdoor, family-friendly walking event will raise funds to provide disadvantaged children with new shoes and socks. It is sponsored by the Brenden-Mann Foundation.

Participants can choose from the one-mile mixed hole, 2.5-mile back-nine or five-mile 18-hole walking options and enjoy the scenic views of TPC Summerlin, live entertainment and prizes. Each registered walker will also receive a souvenir T-shirt and a single-day admission ticket for the tournament, which is scheduled for Oct. 1-7.

Early registration fees are $15 for children 3 to 17 and $30 for those 18 or older until Sept. 14. Fees will increase by $5 after the early registration deadline. A new pair of shoes and five to six pairs of socks can be provided to needy children for every $25 raised. Walk participants can preregister online or the morning of the walk, and space is limited to the first 1,500 walkers.

JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER PLANS OCTOBER TRIP TO LOS ANGELES

The Jewish Community Center's Inspiring Journeys Travel Program plans the trip Historic Jewish Los Angeles for Oct. 12-15.

Plans include a full-day docent-led tour of Los Angeles. Learn about Jewish movie moguls and actors who contributed to the movie industry. Visit early sites of Jewish neighborhoods, synagogues and important community services to the Jewish people. Also included is a guided walking tour of the Wilshire Boulevard Temple. A lunch stop will be at the historic San Antonio Winery.

The trip includes three nights accommodation and bus transportation.

CITY OF LAS VEGAS LAUNCHES NEW ONLINE REGISTRATION SYSTEM

The city of Las Vegas has launched its new online registration system, RecTrac, offering residents an easy way to participate in recreation activities, city sports leagues and Safekey.

By visiting recreation.lasvegas nevada.gov, customers can browse listings as a guest or log on as a registered user to enroll in programs and activities offered by the city. Customers can also call 229-2330 or come into a recreation center to register and pay during normal business hours. Safekey payments can be made online, by phone at 229-3399 or at the Safekey main office, 1651 S. Buffalo Drive.

Programs and activities that require prerequisites or age verification may not be eligible for online registration.

Those who already have an account through the city's previous online registration system will need to use the phone number they gave when they opened the account for the user name. The password will be the primary account holder's last name. Those needing to open a new account should follow the instructions on the website.
