Teacher fired after stepping on American flag in class

An Illinois teacher has been fired for an incident in which he stepped on a U.S. flag in class.

English teacher Jordan Parmenter had been giving a lecture on free speech when he stepped on a small flag, the Associated Press reported. The Martinsville School District board voted 6-0 to fire him.

A student complained Parmenter was being disrespectful and the teacher was placed on leave after the May 15 incident.
