Tour de Summerlin registration closing soon

Summerlin will hold its 12th annual Tour de Summerlin on April 20. Online registration closes Thursday. Last-minute registrations can be handled in person at McGhies Ski, Bike & Board from noon to 7 p.m. Friday.

Tour de Summerlin is a nonscompetitive cycling event that features a 40-, 75- and 100-mile ride through the Summerlin landscape and neighboring Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

“What an incredible way to see the beautifully designed Summerlin neighborhoods and natural desert wilds,” said Danielle Bisterfeldt, marketing director for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin. “Tour de Summerlin is one way all Las Vegas residents can enjoy some of our 22,500-acre master-planned community as well as the best natural scenery in Southern Nevada created by Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area that runs along the western edge of the city. Tour de Summerlin gives locals the opportunity to enjoy what is right in our backyards.”

The event draws about 500 people each year and benefits Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada.

“Summerlin has so much to offer to our riding team because of the beautiful Red Rock view, trails and bike friendly atmosphere,” said Kelly Webb, development coordinator for Candlelighters. “Plus, riding long distances is so much easier because we can do it in this master-planned community. Riders for Candlelighters Kids is in its fourth year and we are so grateful to be part of this wonderful event.”

Last year participants raised $81,000 for the organization.

Tour de Summerlin launches at The Vistas Community Park, 11311 Alta Drive. Registration fees are $70 for the 40- and 75-mile rides and $75 for the 100-mile route. To preregister, visit www.tourdesummerlin.com or call 702-252-8077.
