Uber driver arrested on sexual assault charge

WASHINGTON — District of Columbia police say detectives have arrested a man after a woman reported an Uber car service driver had sexually assaulted her.

Police arrested 31-year-old Reshad Chakari of Alexandria, Virginia, early Saturday. He is charged with second-degree sexual abuse.

Police say the alleged assault occurred in the early morning hours of July 20 in the 1400 block of Rhode Island Avenue in Washington. According to a police report, the woman said Chakari touched her while she was sleeping in the car.

WTOP Radio reports Chakari was released on bond but cannot work for Uber or any car service company until his case is completed.

In a statement to WNEW Radio, Uber says the company is taking the incident seriously and will assist with any investigation.
