Vacant house fire causes $60,000 in damage

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue officials are investigating a fire in a vacant house at 321 Westeria Avenue Saturday night.

There were no utilities connected to the house, and a notice on the front of the house warned that the house was unsafe to live in. At just before 10 p.m. Saturday evening, however, multiple 911 calls reported there was a fire at the house, near Jones Boulevard and U.S. Highway 95.

According to a Las Vegas fire spokesman, neighbors told fire investigators that people were seen in the house, just before the fire, and the house was not secured.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames and smoke coming from the single-story, wood-framed house and a large palm tree burning in the front yard. Firefighters quickly confined the fire to the inside of the house.
