A woman in Utah sent police on a low-speed chase Wednesday, with her six children inside.
The woman was observed driving north on Interstate 15 in Box Elder County, driving 30 mph in a 75 mph zone and reportedly appeared to have mechanical issues, according to Fox 13.
In a press release, troopers said the woman failed to pull over when signaled to, and dangerously passed a semi-trailer before speeding up. One of her rear tires was flat and fell from the rim, emitting sparks as she sped up to 65 mph, still under the posted limit.
When the tire came completely off, the woman pulled over, and her children, ages 1 to 11, exited the vehicle. Police said the children were hungry and not dressed appropriately, according to KSL.
One of the children reportedly told police her mother didn’t stop because she was “afraid you were going to take us away from each other.”
Police said they immediately noticed the woman had a mental health issue and a trained trooper worked with her. The children were taken into custody of the Utah Division of Child and Family Services.
The woman, not yet identified, faces felony evading and child endangerment charges.
