Woman lied about having abortion to give baby to gay friend

A 29-year-old Scottish woman was found guilty after she lied about having an abortion to give her baby away to her gay friend, BBC reported.

The woman, who wasn’t named, reportedly told the baby’s father she had had an abortion, and that the baby the friend had was from a surrogate. A fake Facebook account was made for the invented surrogate, a lawyer named Clare Green.

“You persisted in this wicked scheme for a period of almost three years, until the father was able to get to the truth,” Sheriff William Wood said to the woman and her friend. “Had it not been for his determination there may well have been further damage to this child.”

The woman said in May she had sex with her gay friend and believed the baby to be his, but DNA tests proved thsi wasn’t the case and a jury found her guilty of fraud against the husband.

The case came to light when the father was told the baby looked like him, BBC reported, and he went to the police.

Both the woman, 29, and her male friend, 35, were sentenced to three years in jail.
