Vegas’ top nightclubs will use name-brand DJs to compete against one another on New Year’s Eve. I got a hold of their lineups, and they look like this.
Kaskade will DJ that Tuesday night at Wynn’s XS nightclub. Kaskade headlined at club Marquee for the past few years, but XS hired him away for a winter residency. Clubbers just voted him “America’s Best DJ 2013” in DJ Times magazine.
Calvin Harris will DJ at MGM’s Hakkasan. He is the big name in crossover electronic dance music now, since he created the large pop hits “I Need Your Love,” “Sweet Nothing,” “Feel So Close” and “We Found Love.”
Sebastian Ingrosso — one-third of the DJ trio Swedish House Mafia — will DJ at Light in Mandalay Bay. His song “Reload” (with DJ Tommy Trash and singer John Martin) is one of this year’s bigger hits.
Lil Jon will DJ at Wynn’s Tryst. He is more famous for asserting the word “yeah” in rap-pop, and for appearing in this year’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” but he is also a respected party DJ with a residency at the Wynn.
Diplo will DJ at Encore’s Surrender. He used to be known mostly for co-writing M.I.A.’s classic hit “Paper Planes.” But he has evolved into an underground/hip-hop-EDM staple for co-creating “Bubble Butt” and other crazy songs under his collaborative name, Major Lazer.
Chuckie will DJ at Marquee in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. He’s a master of the “Dutch DJ” sound.
Vice will DJ at Lavo in the Palazzo. He’s a regular at Lavo, Tao and Marquee, and he co-owns the Cosmopolitan store CRSVR Sneaker Boutique.
And neo-soul pop singer Miguel (“Adorn” and “Sure Thing”) will perform at Tao in The Venetian.
Clubs have not announced their Dec. 30 and Jan. 1 lineups. But today, Light will announce it will feature DJ Nicky Romero on Dec. 30, and Alesso on Jan. 1.
Pauly D seemed to be in self-protection mode on Saturday night at club Haze, possibly to guard against people asking him about his baby from a Vegas one-night stand.
After Saturday’s DJ gig, he appeared to leave the club alone, instead of taking ladies and friends up to his boudoir.
Reportedly, a year ago Pauly D had an overnight romance with Amanda Markert (a New Jersey cocktailer and former forensic psychology major) after he DJ’d at the Hard Rock Hotel’s Rehab dayclub.
In May, Markert gave birth to their daughter, Pauly D’s first child and Markert’s second.
Pauly D, 33, and Markert spent last week arguing over visitation rights, via TMZ and Twitter. Hello, 21st century parenthood.
Anyway, Pauly D showed up at Haze after midnight Saturday, just a few minutes before he was supposed to DJ there.
He had on some kind of black mask, since it was post-Halloween weekend.
He walked a red carpet for photos, but he declined interviews. That’s not good, and it’s unprecedented for him. He’s usually all friendly and chatty.
On the other hand, Pauly D was more focused than usual. In the past, he befriended booze behind his DJ booth, but this weekend he was a pro.
And he was all smiles for cameras, especially when Flavor Flav went up to the DJ booth to say hi.
Then he left Haze all by himself. Our little Pauly D is growing up.
