Some school employees were incensed that the Clark County School District is participating in job fairs when it’s cutting more than 800 jobs this year.
It is true that the school district participated in two job fairs this month: the LasVegasjobs.com fair at Texas Station on May 13 and the Opportunity Boulevard job fair at Green Valley Ranch on May 19.
But school officials said they were not hiring to replace laid-off employees but to fill high-need areas. The school district would like to fill 76 vacancies for secondary math teachers and 86 vacancies for science teachers.
Because of the desperation, “we look anywhere we can,” said Mike Rodriguez, a district spokesman.
