Michael and Patty Morrissey were the honorees during Bishop Gorman High School’s 31st annual Knight of the Gael party March 21 at Red Rock Resort.
Michael, a member of the class of 1965, and Patty have been an active part of the Bishop Gorman community for decades. The prestigious award also recognized their commitment to philanthropy, which can be felt across Las Vegas through the numerous organizations they help. They are parents of alumnae Megan (class of 2002), Erin (’06) and letterman Sean Patrick.
The cocktail reception and silent auction allowed Gorman alumni and guests to renew friendships. Seen socializing were Councilman Bob Coffin, Carolyn Sparks, Erin and Noah Kohn, Christa and Todd Morse, Meghan and John Adams, Judy and Jerry Sylvain, Mark Sylvain, Mikey and Jim Bilbray, Carolyn Sue and T.J. Matthews, Denise and Gustav Mauler, Diane and Tom Keating, Susan Graves, Sherry and Tim Morse, Don Campbell, Frank Fertitta III, Teresa and Lorenzo Fertitta, Delise and Blake Sartini, Rhonda Evans, Leah Benjamin, Denise and Tim Cashman, Mary Kaye Cashman, Justice Ron Parraguirre and Leslie Parraguirre, and the Revs. Bill Kenny and Richard Rinn.
The Gorman cheerleaders and marching band led guests into the ballroom where the dining tables were covered in dark green sequins. Mistress of ceremonies Summer Minden (’13) introduced Bishop Joseph A. Pepe of the Diocese of Las Vegas to deliver the invocation.
Gorman President John Kilduff spoke about the activities and accomplishments of Gorman students, noting that 94 percent of the class of 2012 now attends college. Kilduff thanked the supporters of Knight of the Gael, which helps the school’s scholarship program. Gorman will soon embark on a capital campaign to complete construction of classrooms.
The evening’s entertainment was presented by the Gaels Theatre Guild, made up of seniors Ray Winters, Alexa Wells, Madison Turner, Victoria Hudman and Dylan Arredondo singing popular songs and concluding with an awe-inspiring “God Bless America” sung by Turner.
Kilduff recognized The Royal Order of the Gael past honorees and/or family members who were in attendance, including Tito and Sandee Tiberti, Mary Lou and Art Thomas, Mary Cashman, Nancy and Richard Etter, Dan Tuntland, John O’Reilly, Buffie and Tom Kerestesi, Mary Jo and Rossi Ralenkotter, Paula and Michael Gaughan, Susan Sullivan, Connie and Chuck Gerber, Bishop Joseph A. Pepe, the late Frank Fertitta Jr. and Vicki Fertitta, Dorothy and Chi Chi Bengochea, and the Engelstad Family Foundation represented by Kris and Tim McGarry.
