If it's not in the Constitution, it should be: Everybody has a right to an affordable pool party close to their home so that they don't have to drive across town in sweltering summer heat to have fun.
But until we can get that amendment process moving, residents of North Las Vegas and northern Las Vegas at least can take advantage of Sunday Splash at Aliante Station, 7300 Aliante Parkway.
Sunday Splash was created this summer in part to bring the Las Vegas pool party experience to northern valley residents, says Tom Heuser, Aliante's assistant food and beverage director.
The event runs from 2 to 7 p.m. Sundays at Aliante Station's pool deck, and Heuser says a typical Sunday will see about 250 partyers enjoying the summertime ambiance.
Heuser estimates the crowds at about 80 percent local, including many -- and this isn't in the official marketing materials, but we toss it out for whatever it's worth -- who are stationed at Nellis Air Force Base to the east.
Suffice to say, Heuser says, that "we have a lot of good-looking people around the pool."
Music is provided by DJ Alpyne, and Heuser says the staff isn't averse to organizing a game of pool volleyball or basketball if guests feel like burning off some energy in a more competitive fashion.
The drink menu includes "about 40 drinks ranging from frozen tropical drinks all the way to traditional cocktails," Heuser says, and drink prices run from about $6 to $20 .
Bottle service -- for instance, a bottle of Skyy vodka for $75 -- offers guests another beverage option, Heuser says.
Lounging options include six cabanas and eight "cabeds," Heuser says, with prices ranging from $150 for the former to $50 to the latter. Reservations, he adds, are recommended.
Sunday Splash is open to those 21 and over, and entry is $15 per person. For reservations or more information, call 692-7338.
