Discovery Children’s Museum launches year-long birthday party

Funny, it doesn't look at day over 2.

But the Discovery Children's Museum turns 25 on Wednesday — and launches a year-long celebration to commemorate its debut on Sept. 9, 1990.

In March 2013, Discovery moved to its current $50-million Symphony Park location; prior to that, the museum shared the Las Vegas Library building on Las Vegas Boulevard North, in downtown's "Cultural Corridor."

To kick off the year-long 25th anniversary celebration, the first 25 kids who visit Discovery on Wednesday will receive free admission and goodie bags.

The museum also is collecting memories from museum visitors, who may email stories and photos to info@discoverykidslv.org or post them on Facebook at /DiscoveryChildrensMuseum or on Twitter (@discoverylv).

Kids also can help create a Discovery Museum mascot, while every month on the 25th, the museum store will discount designated store merchandise 25 to 50 percent.

Other anniversary activities include "25" Community Collaborations highlighting the ties between Discovery and like-minded organizations; and a "Magic of Discovery" Pat Pack gala Oct. 24 at the Four Seasons Las Vegas, honoring Mayors Carolyn and Oscar Goodman.

"After 25 years, the museum is securing its future by ensuring we develop into a critical community asset that complements and enhances the educational experience of the children of Southern Nevada," Discovery president Tifferney White stated in a news release. "The new location was a realization of a years-long relocation plan and it set a new standard for interactive education in Las Vegas, truly establishing this organization as a community cornerstone."
