Ask Heidi Anything: Vegas’ best pizza is …

Do you ever wish you could ask a restaurant critic a simple question, like, “Who makes the best pizza in Vegas?”

Well, I am friends with the Review-Journal’s award-winning Heidi Knapp Rinella, so I get to ask her many things. In the past 14 years, she has never steered me wrong.

So without further ado, here’s my first installment of Ask Heidi Anything, an uncensored look at our email exchanges about food.

From Doug to Heidi

Hey Heidi, where should I go in Vegas to get your favorite pizza?

My girlfriend and I have been eating weekly at that new downtown place, Pizza Rock, because it has more flat bread, or whatever you call it. (She is originally from New York so she prefers flat pizza. I’m from the South so I usually go for thicker, breadier crust and lots of marinara sauce and ranch dip.)

What places do you think we should go to?

From Heidi to Doug

I, too, like Pizza Rock, because its four ovens, at different temperatures, enable the restaurant’s pizzaolas to prepare a wide range of styles.

Probably my favorite places for pizza are Settebello, which makes authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas (and has two locations in the valley) and Metro Pizza. Metro makes a bunch of different styles as well; I tend to go with the old-school New York, although I love a good deep-dish now and then. My husband loves their meatball sliders.

Metro has a handful of locations.

Heidi also gave me an inside peek at what she has been eating for this Wednesday’s Taste section:

“I’ve been exploring some of the restaurants at the Downtown Container Park. Tuesday I ate lunch at Big Ern’s BBQ and had an amazing brisket sandwich — super tender and flavorful — and some potato salad with lots of black olives mixed in.

“If you haven’t been to the Container Park, it’s definitely worth a stop.”
