Fill your stein, belly at Oktoberfest celebrations

Two Oktoberfest celebrations are scheduled for downtown Las Vegas on Saturday.

The first is from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St. Free and open to the public, it will include Alpine music, German folk dancing and yodeling. Face-painting, a magician and a balloon artist will be among the attractions in the kids’ activity area, and food and drink will be available for purchase. A more adult celebration will begin at 7 p.m. (6 p.m. for VIP) at Neonopolis on the Fremont Street Experience. The evening will include beer sampling, a stein-holding contest and music. Tickets are $35 (a souvenir glass stein and one fill) or $100 for VIP (a stein and unlimited refills) and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Parkinson Disease Association. The Cowboy BBQ will be smokin’ Friday through Sunday at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St. in Henderson. It will encompass a vast variety of barbecue and other foods, live music, carnival rides, art and more from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. Cocktails &Canvas, a wine and food and collaborative art event for the benefit of New Vista, begins at 5 p.m. Saturday at the JW Marriott and Rampart Casino, 221 N.
