Bartok's last concerto on dance program

Violist Tobias Kremer Roth will perform "Bartok, At Last!," the final concerto by composer Bela Bartok, at 7:30 p.m. today and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Nicholas J. Horn Theatre, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., in North Las Vegas.

The concerto will accompany a dance program by Roth's father, Kelly Roth, a local choreographer and head of the dance department at the Community College of Southern Nevada,

"Bartok wrote this last concerto on his deathbed in 1945, hoping it would provide income for his family after his demise," Kelly Roth says. "Unfortunately, the composer died before he could finish the work." It was completed by his son, Peter Bartok, in 1995.

Portraying a Bartok-like figure, the choreographer will be supported by Concert Dance Company members Allie Lincoln, Sara Lukaszewski and Satsuki Ogawa in the roles of the composer's elusive last muses. Pianist Natalia Efremova furnishes the concerto's orchestral accompaniment.

A Ludwig Dance Theater, from Tempe, Ariz., also will be on the program.

Concluding the program, Concert Dance Company will be augmented by the CCSN Dance Ensemble for a return engagement of last year's hourlong multimedia production "Lehi's Dream," which looks at the place of dreams, visions, faith and psychiatric skepticism in modern life.

A reception will follow each of the evening performances.
