Second-grader Milan Frederick, 8, received Guy Elementary School’s Citizenship Award, High Achiever Award, Art Award, the Test Math 2-12 Ribbons Award and was on the All A Honor Roll. She is the daughter of Anthony and Victoria Frederick and granddaughter of Elton and Sandra Linton, all of North Las Vegas.

Roughly 3,600 Israeli Americans, Jewish Americans and supporters of Israel gathered in May for the inaugural Israeli-American Council Celebrate Israel Las Vegas Festival, which included a lineup of Israeli artists, musicians, food, interactive activities and more.

Joseph R. Ganley, a senior litigation partner with Hutchison & Steffen, has been elected as a member of the board of directors of nonprofit Safe Nest.

Ronald McDonald Charities of Greater Las Vegas partnered with the Sun City Men’s 18 Holers for a two-day event May 8-9. The group raised $30,000 for the organization.

U.S.VETS-Las Vegas recently presented awards to local groups that supported the organization’s annual Veterans Stand Down benefiting local homeless military veterans, March 18 and 19 at Cashman Center. Insurance company Humana received the award for Stand Down Partner of the Year. The award was presented at the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition’s Southern Nevada Homelessness Continuum Of Care Board held June 11 at the United Way of Southern Nevada.

On June 12, UNLV School of Nursing Dean Carolyn Yucha received the 2015 State Award for Excellence from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners for making significant contributions to the status of health care delivery and the nurse practitioner role.

The International School of Hospitality’s Director of Academic Affairs Donnell Bayot was named to the CIC Certified Meeting Professional Governance Commission. Bayot, who received the organization’s 2014 Pacesetter Award and recently developed a competency model for caterer and event professionals, was chosen for his experience and innovation as it relates to best practices in professional certification programs within the industry.

In a 16-hour timespan in May, Bank of America delivered 16 checks to Southern Nevada nonprofits, with a focus on workforce development and education, including: Opportunity Village, The Shade Tree, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada, Teach for America and Special Olympics Nevada. The grants, totaling $200,000, were delivered by Bank of America’s Las Vegas Market Manager Dan Giraldo.

Army Pvt. Jade N. Thomas graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Thomas is the daughter of Heather and granddaughter of Dawn and Richard Thomas of Las Vegas and is a 2013 graduate of Northwest Career & Technical Academy.

Army Pvt. Shauna L. Patterson graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Patterson is the daughter of Sharlene Vergo and Scott Patterson and granddaughter of Dianne Lehmann of Las Vegas. She graduated in 2013 from Spring Valley High School.

Army Pfc. Jennifer Cruz graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Cruz is the daughter of Jose Cruz of North Las Vegas. She graduated in 2012 from Rancho High School and earned an associate degree in 2014 from the College of Southern Nevada.

Anne Marie Rexroat of Las Vegas graduated from Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga., on May 1.

Local students graduated May 9 from University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind., including Connor Donnelly and Connor Mc Ilveen, both of Henderson, and Natasha James of Las Vegas.

Area students graduated May 9 from the University of Jamestown in Jamestown, N.D., including Sean Emry of Las Vegas and Rudolph Strnad of Henderson.

Army Pvt. Nicholas R. Chavez Jr. graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Chavez is the son of Jamila Dixon and Nicholas Chavez of Las Vegas and is a 2011 graduate of Cimarron-Memorial High School.

Army Pvt. Eric A. Lozano graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Lozano is the son of Kenny A. Jovel of Las Vegas and is a 2014 graduate of Spring Valley High School.

Summer Holloway of Henderson made the spring 2015 dean’s list at Simpson University in Redding, Calif.

Army Pvt. Stephanie S. Jackson graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Jackson is the daughter of Reginald V. Noles of Las Vegas and is a 2010 graduate of Mojave High School.

Army Pvt. Ryan J. Borinboon graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Borinboon is the son of Kurt Boringdon and Julie Abarzua of Henderson. He is a 2012 graduate of Coronado High School.
