The Big Springs Gallery at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd., is slated to display “Modernism at Risk” through Sept. 6. The collection of large-scale photographs by Andrew Moore explore the role designers play in preserving modern landmarks. Events tied to the exhibit include a screening of “Air, Light and Utopia: The Modern Movement in Architecture,” followed by a discussion led by members of the Nevada Preservation Foundation from 3 to 5 p.m. July 18; and Gaga for Googie, a series of short films displaying Googie architecture in the American West, followed by a discussion with regional experts from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 22. The Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd., is scheduled to host a visiting “Be the Dinosaur: Life in the Cretaceous” exhibit through Sept. 20, featuring an animatronic Tyrannosaurus rex and triceratops, interactive video games and a dino bone dig. The attraction is also scheduled to offer a 30-minute live animal show titled “Eat or Be Eaten: Predators and Prey” at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily through Aug. 23 and Aug. 29 and 30. The show is set to feature Springs Preserve zoologists and staff members with a rotating cast of animals, including bugs, lizards, snakes and small mammals. Audience members can participate in trivia games. A behind-the-scenes tour, offering a chance to get up close with the animals, is planned from noon to 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
