Design center event to 'cover' fabric, color

Presentations on well-dressed windows, upholstery fabric selection, color trends and eco-friendly leather are among the highlights planned for the "covered" event from 9 a.m. -5 p.m. Tuesday at the Las Vegas Design Center, 495 S. Grand Central Parkway.

Covered will illustrate how global influences and climate change continue to inspire home décor, said Margaret Casey, director of programming for World Market Center Las Vegas. "During covered, you can hear from the experts what colors and fabrics are here to stay," she said.

Among the highlights are:

"Beyond the Basics -- Creating Cutting-Edge Treatments Using Classic Contemporary," 11 a.m.-noon, C-316. Jackie Von Tobel, author of "The Design Directory of Window Treatments," will discuss current trends in window treatment design and construction and demonstrate the basic elements of soft treatments.

"Tricks of the Trade: How to Select Upholstery Fabric so Projects Are Problem-free," 3-4 p.m., C-316. Steve Avitable, vice president of furniture merchandising for The Robert Allen Group, will uncover insights on choosing the most suitable fabric constructions and designs for a variety of furniture styles and frames. He will discuss furniture lines such as Bolier & Co., Christopher Guy, E.J.Victor, Ferguson Copeland, Guy Chaddock & Co., Kindel Furniture Co., Payne Street, Swaim and Robert Allen Furniture.

At 4 p.m., several of the showrooms will host special hospitality events and showcase products discussed during the day.
