Mesquite Club celebrates 96th anniversary

The Las Vegas Mesquite Club will celebrate its 96th anniversary with a special wine and dinner buffet from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Spanish Trail Country Club, 5050 Spanish Trail Lane.

Tickets for the formal event, priced at $150 per person, are available by calling 735-6722.

Honorary guests will include Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, Jim and Beverly Rogers, and Larry and Camille Ruvo. Music will be provided by the Nevada School of the Arts Violin Ensemble.

The Mesquite Club is the oldest nonprofit women's community service organization in Las Vegas. It established, stocked and staffed the first community library, inaugurated the Community Christmas Tree celebration, worked to pass state suffrage for women in Nevada and joined to make bandages with the Red Cross during World War I.

The club is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, whose members are dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service.

Event chairwoman is Jeanne Greenawalt.
