Cirque du Soleil's co-founder hopes for MGM Mirage deal

Cirque du Soleil's co-founder Guy Laliberte says he hopes to team up with MGM Mirage to bring another production to Las Vegas.

Laliberte wants to have a decision by fall on where he will take his next trademark show, The Wall Street Journal reported in its Wednesday edition.

Laliberte said expansion plans call for developing up to a half-dozen entertainment complexes around the world in the next 15 years, likely starting with London or Las Vegas. Each complex could cost from $324 million to $1.3 billion, he said.

Another Cirque show would give Las Vegas a total of three. "Mystere" has been at Treasure Island since it opened in 1993 and "O" at the Bellagio since it opened in 1998.

Moon Buggy for Sale

Planet Hollywood in London is auctioning off a piece of Las Vegas film history from one of Sean Connery's last outings as James Bond.

The moon buggy was driven by Connery in the 1971 classic "Diamonds Are Forever."

In the film, Bond steals the lunar vehicle from the bad guys and gets chased across the Nevada desert.

The moon buggy has been on display at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas for several years. Auction organizers expect it to fetch about $200,000 at the July 31 auction.

The vehicle will remain at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas through 2003.

Cleaning the Plate

Chef Ian Fulton got an introduction to Tommy Lasorda's legendary appetite the other day.

Hungry and in a hurry, the former Los Angeles Dodgers manager called Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House from the press box at Cashman Field on Sunday. Lasorda said he was on his way over and needed a rush order of pasta marinara.

Fulton came through in a pinch and had a heaping family-style platter waiting -- 44 ounces of the stuff.

His Slimfast days clearly behind him, Lasorda scarfed down all but about 4 ounces of the order.

If Fulton's name rings a bell, it's because he's also known in another local arena. He coached the Las Vegas Dustdevils, a first-year expansion team, to the Continental Indoor Soccer League championship in 1994.

On-the-mend supermodel Lauren Hutton has told The Venetian she's making plans to attend the grand opening festivities of the Guggenheim and motorcycle museums Sept. 13, 14 and 15. She still uses a cane and a motorized cart to get around New York as she recuperates from her near-fatal motorcycle crash in the Valley of Fire in October. ...

Auditions are set at three locations this weekend for a TV show seeking four families with teen-age kids who will compete on a South Pacific island. The winning family in "Culture Shock" will be awarded a beachfront island home in the South Pacific. The auditions, all from noon to 8 p.m., will be at Gordon Biersch Brewing Co. today, Planet Hollywood at the Forum Shops at Caesars on Saturday and Wet 'n` Wild on Sunday. ...

The Zagat Survey's "top bang for the buck" listed Feast Around the World as No. 10. It is at Sunset Station, not The Rio, as stated here in Wednesday's item.
