Las Vegas Fine Arts Salon is a newly registered nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting local talent in Las Vegas in conjunction with raising funds for various charities throughout Southern Nevada.

The inaugural event March 6 to benefit Safe Nest took place in the home of James "Kim" McKellar Jr. in Paradise Valley.

Safe Nest is a nonprofit organization that operates emergency shelters for battered women and children. The agency also offers hot lines and a professionally staffed counseling office for victims of abuse and offenders.

Christine L. McKellar, president of Las Vegas Fine Arts Salon, made the evening's introductions after welcoming guests including Irais and Robert Kolesar, Assemblywoman Valerie Weber, Sally and Larry McKinney, Sue Shreck, Russell Peterson, Jaci Maynard and Gena Satori.

A silent auction took place in the home's spacious dining room. Hors d'oeuvres catered by Affairs to Remember and wine were served in the family room and outside on the terrace overlooking the pool and waterfall.

Authors spoke about their books and answered questions in the large conversation pit where there was ample seating and a fireplace. Participants included Robyn Carr, Cathy Scott and John L. Smith, a columnist at the Review-Journal.

Artists displaying their works throughout the home were Roy Purcell, Lincoln Maynard and James Stanford.

A recital by student competition winners from the Nevada School of the Arts was presented in the formal living room.
