Add Mix lounge to the mix of new superclubs in the growing galaxy of local nightlife.
Located atop The Hotel at Mandalay Place on the 43rd floor, Mix is only days old, but some are already crowning it the next king of the hill.
In a city famous for raising the standard, Mix, a combination of uber-hip nightclub and a restaurant with an all-white decor, takes the bar to startling heights.
Mix's nightclub offers a three-tiered view facing the Strip, wall-to-wall black leather with red lighting, and what surely will be the city's most-talked about restrooms.
A few feet away, the Alain Ducasse-helmed restaurant, which doesn't open until mid-December, features a $500,000, 13,000-glass bulb chandelier formed to resemble an explosion of champagne bubbles.
According to Patrick Syka, general manager of the 200-diner restaurant and 298-capacity lounge, a major TV network has interest in buying out the restaurant for New Year's Eve.
There's even patio dining.
In the lounge, a massive red corallike centerpiece rises above the main bar. A stairway leads to a private VIP area above the centerpiece.
A similar bilevel concept was designed for the stunning 70-table restaurant. Only the creme de la creme of VIPs will be seated at the four tables in the second-level dining area. Visualize dining under a canopy of the champagne-bubble chandelier.
Ducasse, considered by many in the restaurant industry as the best chef in the world, has a 1,400-label, 5,000-bottle wine cellar next to the kitchen, where 20 cooks work under the trained eyes of three to four chefs.
Back to the nightclub restrooms. How to put this? Breathtaking views are nothing new for Las Vegas, but from commodes and urinals?
Take my word, these loos will be inundated with looky-loos.
