Scott Sullivan of Las Vegas is one of the country's "Hottest Bachelors," according to the June 26 issue of People magazine.

Sullivan, who heads up the Corps of Compassion, a nonprofit charity that has helped thousands of victims of Hurricane Katrina, joins an Army National Guard medic, Coast Guard rescue swimmer, a police officer and firefighter in the magazine's "Rescue Me!" category.

The list also includes Hollywood bachelors Matthew McConaughey, Jamie Foxx, Owen Wilson and Jake Gyllenhaal.

"I was as surprised as the next person," said Sullivan of the selection.

He thinks he came to the attention of the magazine because of his media appearances in the aftermath of the hurricane.

Born and raised in Baton Rouge, La., Sullivan was in the state when Katrina hit. Once he had seen the scope of the devastation, he contacted his business partner, Joelle Jarvis, and the two formed Corps of Compassion and began putting together care packages for the needy.

The former motivational speaker and business entrepreneur also has put himself up for auction as a "Dream Date."

Raffle tickets of $30 can be purchased at www.jointhecorps.org through July 9. Besides a date with Sullivan, the grand prize includes a spa day at Green Valley Ranch, a limo ride, dinner at Hank's Fine Steaks & Martinis and dancing at the Whiskey. The winner will be announced July 10 during KVVU-TV, Channel 5's "FOX 5 Live" show. Other raffle ticketholders also will receive prizes.

Funds from the raffle will go to Corps of Compassion. So far the charity has helped thousands of Katrina victims, including thousands in the Las Vegas area.

"It was up to us as American people to help because the government really didn't show up," Sullivan said.

The Corps has expanded to providing backpacks of meals for local school children.

Sullivan sees the "Dream Date" auction as good exposure for the foundation, which has two warehouses at 1010 N. Stephanie in Henderson.
