Lake Las Vegas offers old-fashioned holiday

Clint Holmes will help Santa Claus and Lake Las Vegas Resort welcome the holiday season tonight in Henderson.

Festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. with the lighting of the Christmas tree at the resort, 1605 Lake Las Vegas Parkway. Holmes will follow with his favorite holiday tunes. Santa and his elves will mingle with the crowd and pose for photos at the free event.

The gathering also will signal the opening of the floating ice rink at the resort. Open through Jan. 15, the rink fee is $12. For more information, call 564-1600.

Opportunity Village Magical Forest returns

The Magical Forest at Opportunity Village will open on Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The 15th annual fundraiser at 6300 W. Oakey Blvd. will feature Santa, holiday displays, a passenger train, carousel and Alpine Slide, among other attractions.

The forest will be open from 5:30 to 10 p.m. daily through Dec. 30. General admission is $9 for those 13 and older, $7 for youngsters ages 3 to 12, and free for children 2 and younger. Other ticket options are available. Call 225-9627 for details.

See sparkling lights at Sunset Park

The Gift of Lights attraction at Sunset Park features more than 300 holiday light displays this year, including some new archway tunnels, the North Pole Fire Department and holiday bears fishing.

It takes about 20 minutes to drive through the park displays, which are open from 5 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5 to 10 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and holidays through Jan. 1 at 2601 E. Sunset Road.

Admission is $12 per vehicle. A discount of $2 will be offered to those bringing "gently used" items for Goodwill. Further details are available by calling 451-1641.
