Man, mattress save toddler falling from window

A Burbank, Calif., couple happened to be in the right place at the right time with a box spring mattress when a toddler fell from three stories up after crawling out of a window.

According to CNN, Konrad Lightner and his wife Jennifer were moving on Sunday and spotted the toddler hanging out of an apartment window and called 911.

“We called 911 and Konrad threw the box spring down trying to break his fall and stood there to catch him,” Jennifer told CNN affiliate KABC.

According to KABC, police said the 3-year-old had apparently climbed out of the window onto a telephone or cable line.

“Once we saw that his leg was going over the window, Jenny called the police,” Konrad told KTLA. “He started hanging from (the wire) and he started crying and I knew he couldn’t get back to the window so I was just getting ready for him to let go.”

Parents of the toddler were unaware that he opened the window and climbed out, but were thankful the Lightners acted quickly.

“I didn’t hear the window open,” Morgane Milligan told KTLA. “My son pushed out the screen and decided it was really fun to throw toys out there. I’ll never be able to repay them for what they’ve done.”

In other mattress news, surveillance footage captured a cyclist being hit by a passing truck, and a mattress that fell off the same truck coming to his rescue at the same time.

Watch closely. As the truck zooms by, the cyclist is hit and the mattress flying off the truck flies underneath him and the ground.

According to the video time stamp, the incredible moment took place Tuesday just before 5:00 p.m.

It is unclear where the incident took place, but the footage is filmed in a spanish-speaking country. However, Daily Picks and Flicks reports that it happened in the city of Foz do Iguacu, Brazil, and also report that eyewitnesses say the cyclist was not injured.

Towards the end of the surveillance video, the cyclist stands up from the mattress and pulls his bike out from underneath the mattress.
