This week’s 5 best bets for arts & culture in Las Vegas

Wetlands Park

With more than 13 miles of trails, Clark County Wetlands Park is one of the Southwest’s largest urban wetlands. At this time of year, it’s also one of the hottest — so the action moves (mostly) indoors for the park’s first Summer Open House at 7050 Wetlands Park Lane , about a mile east of Tropicana Avenue and Boulder Highway . From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, visitors will enjoy a variety of free activities, including crafts, nature-themed stories and displays featuring desert creatures. For more information, call 702-455-7522 or click on www.ClarkCountyNV.gov/Wetlandspark .

‘Memphis’

Hockadoo! The rockin’, Tony-winning musical kicks off a 12-performance Super Summer Theatre run Wednesday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. Inspired by a true story, “Memphis” recounts the 1950s rise of white radio DJ Huey Calhoun — and his passion for both R&B music and up-and-coming black singer Felicia Farrell. “Memphis” plays at 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, July 6-23; for tickets ($12.95-$15.95 in advance, $20 at the gate, children 5 and younger free), visit www.supersummertheatre.org.

First Friday

Or should that be First Fry-Day? If you’re looking for “Deliverance” from triple-digit hell, cooling and hydration stations will be an undoubtedly welcome part of July’s arts and culture celebration (5 to 11 p.m.) in downtown’s arts district, along with the usual attractions, from arts and crafts to musical performances, a drum circle, dancing, food trucks, family fun and more. For updates on this month’s event, visit www.facebook.com/firstfridaylasvegas or www.firstfridaylasvegas.com.

Josh & the Jamtones

Get the party — and Las Vegas’ July Summer Concert Series — started with Josh & the Jamtones. You (and your kids) may have seen their interactive, high-energy ska-meets-rock act on video at Chuck E. Cheese’s, where they’re a featured band; you may have heard them on satellite radio. Now kids of all ages can jump, clap and jive with them live at 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St. For tickets ($3), visit www.artslasvegas.org.

Las Vegas Jazz Society

If you’re looking for a jazz brunch to add a different all-American flavor to the long Independence Day weekend, the Las Vegas Jazz Society’s got you covered. From 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, pianist Gus Mancuso will make a special appearance at the Bootlegger Bistro, 7700 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Along with Mancuso’s music, there’s a buy-one, get-one brunch or lunch — and no cover charge. For more information, visit www.vegasjazz.org.
