Army Guard member honored for rescuing 2-year-old

A Nevada Army National Guard soldier received a medal Saturday afternoon for rescuing a drowning 2-year-old in the summer.

Spc. Steven Thompson from the 17th Special Troops Battalion’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company was awarded an Army Commendation Medal at the Las Vegas Readiness Center.

He received the medal after he resucitated a 2-year-old who was lying in a pool for nearly five minutes. Thompson performed CPR for more than 12 minutes before medical personnel arrived.

His efforts were credited for helping save the child’s life.
