Buckley says she won't run for governor

Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley said today she won't run for governor, leaving the Democratic side of the field open for Clark County Commissioner Rory Reid.

In an announcement Buckley said: “In the weeks since the end of the legislative session, I have had the time and opportunity to have serious, in-depth discussions with my family about my potential candidacy. After taking stock of the impact a 14-month campaign would have on my family, particularly my 10-year-old son, I have made the decision that now is not the right time for me to run."

Although Buckley never declared she would run, she was known to be considering the possibility. A Mason-Dixon poll in August showed Buckley to be a favorite among Democratic voters in Nevada.

In a two-way race between Reid and Buckley, voters preferred Buckley 43 percent to 22 percent.
