Bad debt sparks lawsuit between Greenspun siblings

In a family squabble over money, Susan Greenspun Fine has sued her brother, Las Vegas Sun Publisher Brian Greenspun, to collect an unpaid $2 million loan.

The action, filed Wednesday in Clark County District Court, said Greenspun Fine’s three-year loan came due on March 24 . After that, Greenspun had 15 days to repay the loan in full.

Both were listed in court papers as trustees of separate family trusts.

Attorneys from both sides did not return calls for comment.

The loan terms pledged that the sales proceeds from a home Greenspun owns through a trust in the Southern Highlands community would go to repay the loan. The house has been listed by Prime Realty since September at $2.8 million, after starting at $3 million in June. County records do not show a recent sale.

Greenspun bought the custom-built home five years ago for $3.7 million, then listed it for a year at $3.5 million before taking it off the market in November 2011, according to Zillow.com. The house, occupying 8,804 square feet on a golf course, includes five bedrooms, 5½ baths, five fireplaces, a theater room in the basement, a wine cellar, a detached wing and a four-car garage, according to the listing. County records show a different address for Greenspun, so it is unclear whether anyone has ever lived in the house.

In November, Greenspun Media Group was consolidated into Greenspun Corp., which appointed Paul Hamilton as president one year ago. Hamilton is a principal of Las Vegas-based Province Advisors, which lists several cases in which it helped companies restructure after running into severe financial trouble.
