Pedestrian critical after hit-and-run accident Thursday night

A man was critically injured after he was hit by a pickup truck Thursday night in east Las Vegas, according to police.

Las Vegas police officers responded to Lamb Boulevard near Owens Avenue just after 10 p.m. and found 53-year-old Roland Hamilton. Police say Hamilton had tried to cross the street outside of a marked crosswalk and was hit by a 1995 Chevrolet S-10 truck, police said.

Hamilton was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the truck, Jose Romero Avila, fled the scene but was followed by an accident witness. Avila was pulled over by police.

Avila failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on charges of DUI and felony hit and run, police said. The 37-year-old will appear in court Saturday morning.
