Three Henderson officers involved in shooting identified

The names of the three officers who fatally shot a man who open fired on them Tuesday morning have been released by the Henderson Police Department.

Achim Brunette, with the department since 2006; Jason Dunn, on the force since 2003; and Travis Nusbaum, who started in 2007; have all have been placed on routine paid administrative leave.

Edward John Scheboth, 63, was shot in the head about 8 a.m. at the intersection of Boulder Highway and College Drive after he shot at a female police officer sitting in her car. She was part of a team of officers assigned to redirect traffic from an earlier car accident that took the life of a 75-year-old pedestrian.

The officer, who at first thought the gunshots were firecrackers, pulled forward after the back window of her car was shattered and called for backup. When responding officers responded found Scheboth, he open fired on them as well, according to Henderson police.

Officers returned fire, killing Scheboth, who died later at Sunrise Hospital.

It was the first officer involved shooting of the year for the Henderson police department.
